Fair Trade: Go Beyond with Atacora
Atacora Fair Partnership
We go beyond Fair Trade by promoting people’s ownership of their futures.
Our model is based on working with sustainable indigenous resources and nurturing women as the principal economic actors.
Profit incentives from the fair partnership fund community health and education projects, as well as infrastructure to increase the community’s capacity to produce marketable products. Atacora collaborates with local government, NGOs and village groups on co-created microprojects that improve the living and working conditions of communities in Benin.
Atacora was among the first to bring the African superfruit Baobab, to the rest of the world. Atacora was founded in 2009 by David B. Goldman (BA, MA) after he got to know the people of the Republic of Benin from having served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Benin.
The Atacora team is a big family, tied by clan and village. As a collective, our mission is to collaborate in the direct fight against poverty and inequality, restoring people’s pride in knowing that a bright future is in their own hands. Atacora’s leadership on local initiatives in the fields of education, healthcare and environmental stewardship can be felt throughout the region.
Follow our journey by subscribing to our email newsletter, purchasing our superfoods, hand-made jewelry and bags and our pure essential skin care products, and connecting with us over your favourite social media platforms.
By revaluing indigenous African resources and promoting women as primary economic actors, Atacora contributes to the fight against poverty and inequality through market-based initiatives. Our collaborative village microprojects in the fields of education, environmental sustainability and public health help to ensure local ownership of a brighter future.
