It was prized by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt as a sacred food. It has also been traditionally valued as a natural remedy. It has been and still is used as an antidote to poison and to relieve conditions such as insomnia, ulcer, cough, wounds, abscesses and rashes.

Health Benefits of Virgin Red Palm Oil

Today, scientists are recognizing the value of Red Palm Oil in the treatment and prevention of many diseases. It provides a higher level of certain bioavailable nutrients than any other plant source and contains a balanced mixture of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

Rich in antioxidant Vitamins A and E, this aromatic oil fights free radicals to support healthy cardio and neuro function, and offers more Vitamin A than any other food. With the highest alpha-carotene level among plant sources, along with beta carotene, tocopherols and tocotrienols, the antioxidant effect of Virgin Red Palm Oil is potent. It has been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol levels and increase brain function.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, of the famous Dr. Oz TV Show called this oil his most miraculous find of 2013, saying “it is a benefit for your heart, brain, and even to lose weight. Red Palm Oil is a smaller fat that ignites your metabolism and sweeps away the plaque in our arteries”.

Uses of Virgin Red Palm Oil

Virgin Red Palm Oil is an excellent, high heat cooking oil and is a delicious addition to many dishes. It is more heat stable than other vegetable oils and remains stable
when used in high temperatures. It has a mild, sweet and spicy flavor and is versatile in the kitchen. It is great in salads, sauces, soups and dressings.

One of our favorite dishes to make is Moyo, a traditional West African sauce. In a large sauce pan add virgin red palm oil and onion. Sauté until the onions are translucent and add chunked tomatoes. Cook over medium heat until the tomatoes are soft. Add a little cayenne pepper for extra spice (if desired). You can also add some chopped spinach or swiss chard if you like. Serve over rice or fonio and enjoy!
