Baobab Superfruit Powder has been receiving a great deal of attention recently as a tasty food additive packed with antioxidant Vitamin C and Prebiotic soluble fiber and a whole lot more! With this fast-growing interest in this novel superfood, questions about how best to incorporate it into your daily diet have also arisen.  I have been working with Baobab for almost a year, and my family and I love it.  I have found that incorporating it into recipes is very easy and tastes fantastic.   The following are some successful ways I have integrated Baobab into our daily diet:

 

BAOBAB SMOOTHIES

One of the easiest ways to use Baobab is to add a couple of tablespoons to water, or mix it into a smoothie.  It adds an unbelievable flavor, while offering a great deal of fiber, nutrients, and antioxidants.  Baobab is a great thickener, so adding a couple of tablespoons to any drink gives it a great, smooth texture.  The lovely sweet/tart flavor that can be likened to citrus is an added bonus!

BAOBAB SAUCES

One of my favorite ways to use Baobab Superfruit Powder is to add it to sauces.  As a gluten free alternative, we use it as replacement for flour and make a variety of different rouxs with it.  The following recipe is truly amazing on grilled fish or chicken:

  1. Saute onions and garlic in olive oil until the onions are transparent in color.
  2. de glaze the pan with white wine
  3. add a tablespoon or so of baobab to the liquid and continue to mix until smooth and thick.

BAKING WITH BAOBAB

You can add Baobab Superfruit Powder to pretty much any recipe for a little extra flavor and to boost the nutrient content.  I bake with it all the time in a variety of recipes.  It adds a great texture and taste.  For a gluten free alternative to a graham cracker crust:

  1. mix 2 tablespoons oil, a cup of almond meal, a 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1 egg, and 2 tablespoons baobab powder in a heated saucepan.
  2. mix well until all ingredients are well combined.
  3. mold into the bottom of a pan and bake for 10 minutes.

Baobab is incredibly versatile, and these recipes are just the tip of the iceberg.  One of its greatest virtues when compared to other Superfruits like Acai and Goji is that you do not have to mask a less-than-pleasant taste to get all the great nutrition.  Click the button below for alot more great recipe suggestions.  Got Baobab?
